Joshua I. RudawitzJosh has over ten years of multi-faceted intellectual property law experience.  Josh provides counsel in drafting and prosecution of domestic and international trademarks and patents in a variety of fields, including: Medical instruments and devices; printing devices; turbine engines; software and mobile applications; business and commercial methods; consumer electronics and devices; and mechanical devices.

Josh’s current practice focuses on patent and trademark matters:

  • Patent and trademark application preparation and prosecution;
  • Preparation of patentability opinions;
  • Preparation of trademark opinions;
  • Conducting intellectual property due diligence analyses;
  • Inter partes reviews;
  • Preparing opinions on patent infringement and validity;
  • Preparation of invalidity and non-infringement contentions; and
  • Intellectual property litigation support.

Prior to joining Barlow, Josephs and Holmes, Josh was an IP associate at a mid-sized Boston area firm.  Before private practice, Josh was a primary patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). While at the USPTO, he reviewed patent applications, including analysis and review of the proposed technology to the prior art for compliance with Title 35 of the U.S. Code and related Federal rules. He examined a wide range of technologies, including semiconductor handling and manufacturing configurations, mechanical parking facilities, automated storage and retrieval systems, and hoists.

Josh served as a clerk for Administrative Patent Judge Greenhut at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the USPTO, where he briefed APJ Greenhut on legal and technical issues and drafted written opinions on appeals. In addition, Josh served as a legal intern at the Office of the Solicitor at the USPTO, where he drafted legal memorandum on USPTO policy and drafted portions of appeal briefs submitted at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
